Welcome to the 6th edition of International Delaware™
The yearly magazine of World Trade Center Delaware
Delaware may be known as the “Corporate Capital of the World,” but each summer, as diplomats and Federal government leaders and families, including President Biden, flock to our beaches, we are known as “Washington’s Summer Capital”. Another name, “The Diamond State,” is reflected in our flag, the nickname being given by founding father and third President Thomas Jefferson, according to legend, because he described Delaware as a “jewel” among states.
You can choose from the beauty of our beaches and gardens, our many cultural festivals and performances throughout the year, historic sites, charming and picturesque small towns, museums, sports venues, or our James Beard and world-class restaurants. Visitors also enjoy the savings they receive from our tax free shopping. With the return of scheduled airline service to Wilmington Airport, visitors will have more ways to reach Delaware. Whatever moniker we are known as, I am sure that you will find that Delaware has something to offer everyone, of any age.
Thank you to our sponsors Discover Bank and Delaware Technology Park, and publisher Delaware Business Times, the World Trade Center Delaware Board of Directors, and all the companies that supported this edition so that you can learn just why the world comes to Delaware...

Welcome to the 5th edition of International Delaware™
The yearly magazine of World Trade Center Delaware
This year’s magazine focuses on Delaware’s science and technology sector, the “most international of all professions” is as true as today when President John F. Kennedy said this almost 50 years ago. Scientists and engineers come from all over the world to develop and deliver products and services used on earth, the moon, and beyond. The diversity of opportunity and talent create a fertile ground for companies seeking to create new products and services for the world’s markets.
Delaware companies, academic institutions and non-government organizations have worked tirelessly to ameliorate the impact of the global COVID-19 pandemic, other diseases and the effects of climate change. Many smaller companies have been at the forefront of developing solutions to these, our most critical challenges. One of COVID’s greatest unintended consequences was the chaos in supply chains caused by port closures and labor shortages in factories, ships and trucks, just when increased international e-Commerce required additional containers, port storage space and handling facilities. Here, too, Delaware has met the test.
Automation, information, communications, gene editing, optical, and other evolving technologies create the need for more highly skilled technologists. Innovative local programs ranging from coding to CRISPR are making this groundbreaking technology accessible around the world.
We wish to thank all the people who contributed to this edition of International Delaware -our sponsor Discover Bank, publishing partner Delaware Business Times, the World Trade Center Delaware Board of Directors, and all the companies whose support for this edition makes it possible for the world to understand why America’s Innovation Corridor is located in Delaware. 2020 Edition
The yearly magazine of World Trade Center Delaware
Introducing the 4th edition of International Delaware™
The World Trade Center Delaware has released its fourth edition of International Delaware Magazine which focuses on Delaware's growing FinTech industry.
The foundation for FinTech in Delaware was laid in 1981, when then-Gov. Pierre S. du Pont IV signed the Financial Center Development Act, legislation designed to increase employment in the banking and financial services sector by attracting out-of-state institutions to establish subsidiaries in Delaware. Today, Delaware, despite its tiny population, is one of the world's great financial centers. Over 75% of all FinTech investment in the Philadelphia region is found in Delaware and it has the highest concentration of financial services employment in the entire country according to a study by Delaware Prosperity Partnership. The study, "Delaware in a FinTech Future," reported that Delaware ranks No. 1 per capita for the number of FinTech patents issued over the past ten years in the U.S. and No. 5 overall. Discover Bank, this issue's presenting sponsor, is making a significant contribution to Delaware's FinTech future. In partnership with the University of Delaware and Delaware Technology Park, Discover is building a new 100,000-square-foot center for FinTech innovation on the university's Science Technology and Advanced Research (STAR) Campus that will combine the prowess of academia, government, and industry to support and grow FinTech's future in Delaware.
